Why your boat looks faded
A boat can become faded over time due to oxidation, which occurs when exposure to UV rays and moisture breaks down the surface. This causes the gel coat or paint to lose its shine and color, often leaving a chalky, dull appearance. To restore and prevent further oxidation, the boat can be buffed using a machine polisher along with a mixture of grit and oils known as compound to bring back the shine. Regular maintenance, including washing the boat and waxing it frequently, helps protect the surface and maintain its appearance for longer.
What is buffing
Buffing removes the oxidized layer and smooths the surface, bringing back its original gloss. This process often involves multiple steps, starting with a coarse compound for heavy oxidation and finishing with a finer polish to achieve a high-gloss shine. Applying wax or Ceramic Coating afterward helps protect the restored surface from future oxidation.
